Yabusame in Kamakura (Japan)


Yabusame is a horse-riding archery, one of traditional Japanese martial arts. It dates back to the 12th century when it changed from military training to Shinto tradition. The contests are held in Shinto shrines.


The video was taken on 16th September 2011.  On 16th September in Kamakura there is a major yabusame festival.


The video was taken in the Tsurugaoka Hachiiman shrine (Hachimanguu) in Kamakura.

What else?

  • Sightsee Tsurugaoka Hachimanguu shrine.
  • Sightsee other Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples including Hase-dera‘s with Kannon (Goddess of Mercy) statue.
  • Take a trip to Hase and see the Great Buddha in Kotokuin temple.
  • Get plenty of other activities in Kamakura or in Kanagawa Prefecture where the city lies. Too many to list them all.
